Butterflies are a potent symbol of transformation.  You only need to look at the stages a caterpillar has to go through to transform into a beautiful butterfly to realise it can be an uncertain and messy process.  It’s much like our own transformation journey!

At certain times in life, it can feel like you’re wading through a lot of s***t to get to the good stuff! Even more so, if you feel that somewhere along the way you’ve lost sight of who YOU are!

When you’re transitioning from who you were, to who you’re becoming it can quite honestly look a bit messy! (that’s the polite version!) The years around Menopause are a time of big transition for many women.

However, as difficult as it seems, it’s often the challenging bits of life that instigate the most profound personal growth.  Going through difficult times, whether it’s a relationship breakdown, loss of a job, financial hardship, or any other myriad of circumstances, it can be easy to go into a “victim” mentality. You might question – why is this happening to me?

No judgement here, as it’s something I’ve done previously! However, what I now know to be true is that this isn’t helpful or empowering in any way.  While it may be a natural response, and tempting to have a good long wallow, it doesn’t help to stay in this place for too long.

Challenging situations can feel intensely painful. A necessary part of the healing process is to feel the emotion, grieve any loss and then gradually find your balance and centre again.

If you are experiencing grief, this is a normal part of the cycle of life. There is no rushing through this healing process, and it’s uniquely different for everyone.

The big life events are often the ones that change you from the inside, out. They cause you to re-evaluate your life, what’s important and what needs to be let go of.  And to determine what’s no longer working, or serving you.

Real transformation begins when you ask yourself –

What can I learn from this experience?

What can I take from this?

It could be that you got through it, you survived, you discovered you’re stronger and more resourceful than you thought.

It may be that you had to do things you didn’t realise you were capable of, or perhaps you discovered a truth about yourself – a jewel, that was previously hidden from your view.

Like the caterpillar and the butterfly, the bit in the middle can be very messy – but just like the emerging butterfly, your transformation and personal growth can be beautiful, profound and life-enhancing.

If you’re a woman who has lost sight of yourself and you’re in the messy middle, then take heart. There is a way through and what’s on the other side of finding yourself again will be SO much better than you can even begin to imagine.

Trust me, I’ve been there!
